FROM A WIDOW’S CLOSET – Synopsis
62-year-old Zahida, a South Asian Muslim recently widowed, has moved to Canada to live with her son and daughter-in-law. She finds it difficult to make friends or accept her son’s Canadian lifestyle. She stays at home, moping and moaning and delving into the closet from time to time, wistfully gazing at the memorabilia of her life she had with her loving and protective husband Saleem. Her expectations that her son and daughter-in-law would change their ways to accommodate her needs is ‘wishful thinking’!  Their own life demands are such that they become somewhat resentful with unrealistic expectations!

Her chance meeting with Rekha, a social worker from a Hindu background, is a gift from God. They become close friends. Zahida casts off her widow’s weeds and eventually overcomes her depression!  She starts going out on her own, and for the first time in her life, begins making decisions independently! A very different Zahida emerges out of that ‘purda’. Then, one day she faces a decision that could irrevocably change her life forever!
